Our

Vision

The Appalachian Institute for Mountain Studies, Inc. (AIMS) conducts research, education, and application in environmental anthropology, sustainable development, biocultural diversity, permaculture, agroecology, transition culture, and resilience. AIMS is a living laboratory for modeling sustainable human ecosystems and envisions a society where traditional knowledge from mountain cultures is combined with appropriate technology to provide innovative solutions for a transitional world.

Here are several essays that give a more in-depth description of the AIMS vision and history by Jim Veteto.
